How is In-Office Teeth Whitening Performed?
The procedure is straightforward. Before starting the treatment, we will make a record of the current shade of your smile. Your teeth will be polished using a granular material called pumice to remove the accumulation of plaque from their surface. We will isolate your mouth with gauze so that it remains dry throughout the procedure and also place a barrier along the gumline to protect it from exposure to the solution.
We will coat your teeth with a whitening solution containing 25 percent of hydrogen peroxide on the front surface of your teeth. Hydrogen peroxide acts as a bleaching agent, thus removing the stains and whitening your teeth. In some cases, we will also use a curing light or laser to activate the concentration of this whitening solution.
The solution will be left on your teeth for 40-50 minutes. We will rinse your mouth and check the progress. If required, it will be reapplied and left for some more time. Once optimum results have been achieved, we may also use a fluoride application to help alleviate any tooth sensitivity that you may suffer after the procedure. Thereafter, you are expected to care for your teeth by regular brushing and flossing and paying attention to your diet.
